Students logging into LoboWeb to sign up for classes next month will notice changes to the registration process, and there are lots of resources available to help them understand how to use it.

"The new process is more streamlined and user-friendly," said Duane Arruti, Chief Information Officer for Information Technologies (IT) at UNM. "Things are set up a little differently and students should familiarize themselves with the new format before hand in order to make their registration process smoother and more efficient."

Editor, This letter is written in response to a letter to the editor published on Nov. 19, titled "UNM should be careful with upcoming Banner overhaul." Thank you for taking the time to respond to the UNM News story regarding the updates to the Banner system. The resources you reviewed on the published site were intended to provide a high-level view of the steps we have in place to prepare Banner 9 for go-live, and, as you note, they do not show the level of detail to address your concern about our approach to testing, nor do they represent the full project hours for each implementation.

Letter: UNM Should Be Careful with Upcoming Banner Overhaul

(11/19/17) By Karen Roberts Gardner: Program Planning Manager, College of Arts and Sciences

Editor, While I was pleasantly surprised at the news that Banner is undergoing a “massive overhaul,” I immediately felt a sense of dread as I read the UNM News story, "Campus-wide system undergoing massive overhaul” (Nov. 15). That dread deepened when I read the Banner 9 information page linked in the article. There is a timeline at the very bottom of that webpage. I panicked when I saw that the number of hours dedicated to the “Reach out and Touch Someone” phase, which includes user training among other tasks, is only six hours for the “customer team.” I am assuming, of course, that the “customer team” is providing, or at least overseeing, the end-user testing, because I cannot find this phase of the rollout anywhere else in the project plan.

One of the most widely used systems on campus is getting a complete overhaul – including a fresh look, more streamlined user interfaces and easier processes.

Many people on The University of New Mexico campus are unfamiliar with the Banner system, even though they probably use it every day.  Student registration, payroll, employee leave information and countless forms are stored, organized and accessed through Banner.
